Memorandum of Understanding Signed For Sea Delight’s Billback Program for Mahi Mahi Private Label Bags

In our continued efforts for responsible and sustainable fishing practices, Sea Delight, LLC, (Sea Delight) together with Logistica & Exportaciones Transcity, S.A.(Transcity) and Sea Delight Ocean Fund, Inc., (Fund) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, on the development and implementation of a Billback Program for Mahi Mahi Private Label Bags.

The primary long term goal of our Billback Program, is to create a funding model to support the Ecuadorian National Action Plan for Dolphinfish Management and Conservation (Pan Dorado), in an effort to help the fishery move toward effective ecosystem based management, and to conduct this effort following the guidelines, policies and recommendations of the current Fishery Improvement Project (FIP).

Ecuador is one of the largest Mahi Mahi producing countries in South America, and we encourage and assist activities that foster continual improvement towards more responsible and ultimately sustainable fishery practices, which lead to our goal of certification by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for the involved fisheries.

The objective of preserving natural resources for the welfare of present and future business while working to develop each of our own company’s sustainability programs by supporting existing Fishery Improvements Projects in Ecuador, is what brings both of our private institutions to create this MOU, between Sea Delight and Transcity.

The mission of The Fund is to support global fishery improvement projects and better fishing practices initiatives, create and promote awareness for responsible fishing practices and adequate management of the fishery, and assisting Sea Delight and its vendors on developing future funding models for marine conservation programs.

Transcity agrees to pay five cents 5¢ (USD) for every POUND packed for the Mahi Mahi private label bag program, and shall report and submit documentation for their contributions to the Billback Program.

Sea Delight agrees to match these five cents 5¢ (USD) for every POUND packed for the Mahi Mahi private label bag program, and shall also report and submit documentation for their match of contributions to the Billback Program.

The Fund agrees to administer these finances to support Sea Delight and Transcity in developing a traceable supply chain of responsibly caught Ecuadorian large pelagic from vessels and fishers that have taken part in the training on best practices and are using circle hooks to reduce the harmful effects of marine turtle bycatch.

The Fund shall submit a report and documentation for how the finances raised by the Billback Program were distributed to support Sea Delight and Transcity on the development of a traceable supply chain of responsibly caught Ecuadorian large pelagic, as well as their support of the existing Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) in Ecuador.

We are all thrilled and excited to launch this Billback Program, and together, work toward sustainable fishery practices, leading to certification by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for the involved fisheries, and support the Ecuadorian National Action Plan for Dolphinfish Management and Conservation in Pan Dorado.
